The environmental intervention Optimists focuses on water and shade, two indispensable elements of urban space in the summer.
The installation of four sailboats reactivates an abandoned water surface in the museum square, helping also to improve the climate in the mostly overheated courtyard. Creating a holiday atmosphere, the sailboats invite passersby to sit down for a while to socialize and enjoy the variety of cultural events enlivening the square as part of the U3 exhibition.
The sailboats all have long individual histories. In the urban environment, their stories and names take on a new life.
The group prostoRož formed spontaneously in 2004, stemming from a desire to explore and understand open urban spaces. It is a long-term project of cultivating public areas with the aim to develop a method for regenerating and designing degraded areas in urban centers by actively involving local communities.
